Act Now to Save ANWR
By: Rowan Wolf
The time to take action to save the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge is NOW. Various environmental organizations have joined together in this fight. You may join the email campaign at Arctic Refuge Action. Additionally, the Wilderness Society is registering for a rally in Washington, D.C. on September 20th if you can make it there.
ANWR is critical habitat for wildlife, and particularly for caribou. At stake is the coastal area of ANWR which are the calving grounds for the Porcupine herd. The lives and culture of thousands of the Gwich'in tribe and others lie in the protection of ANWR. Further, global warming is melting the permafrost, and that melt is even more rapid in disrupted areas (such as drilling sites, roads, and the path of the pipeline. These changes dramatically increase the likelihood of a spill or leak resulting in even further environmental damage. Please help keep oil exploration and development out of ANWR.
