AP-AOL Poll on Gasoline Prices
By: Rowan Wolf
The Associated Press - AOL did a poll on gas prices, and found that 64% of those polled felt that gas increases would cause them financial hardship. The poll asked what was to blame for the increase (no, peak oil nor any intimation of a supply/demand problem was among the choices) and the top responses were: Oil companies that want to make too much profit (30%); Foreign countries that dominate oil reserves, (22%); Politicians, (21). Interestingly, nine percent blamed environmentalists.

And the people who were blaming environmentalists most likely were driving Hummers or Excursions or Lincoln Navigators (in which they cart their one Jack Russell terrier and designer hiking boots and have their only child watch movies on the built-in plasma TV), and they just couldn't understand why those pesky environmentalists keep protesting the current administration's gleeful push to drill in the Alaskan refuges. Who needs wildlife anyway?
I just saw on comcast's homepage that there is a test car developed by someone in Corte Madera, CA that gets 80 mpg, and others with similar technology have reached up to 250 mpg. The link is: http://www.comcast.net/news/technology/index.jsp?cat=TECHNOLOGY&fn=/2005/08/13/200066.html
This still requires oil and has some issues to smooth out, but isn't it a step in the right direction? And wouldn't it make sense for our government to provide incentives for mass development and purchase?
